Our partnership with Leja bulela, a Congolese aid organization, embodies our commitment to blending tradition with innovation, not only in our coffee but in our social impact. Leja bulela's dedication to supporting internally displaced persons in the Democratic Republic of Congo aligns with our mission to provide meaningful aid in the countries where our beans are sourced. Through this collaboration, we aim to contribute to initiatives that promote healthcare, education, and a brighter future for the Kasai Province, reflecting our shared belief in the power of caring and community support.
The Kalala Muzeu Health Center is Leja Bulela's largest project to date. The health center, which is located in the rural Tshimbombo Tshimuangi community, serves a population of over 50,000 individuals. With a maternity ward, pharmacy, and a full-time staff of 10 people, the clinic not only saves lives, but also provides economic activity as the complex requires constant maintenance and infrastructure improvements.
Since its completion in 2011, the Kalala Muzeu Health Clinic has undergone many changes and improvements. In order to make the clinic a highly-functioning institution, electricity was a must. In 2010, Allen Rainey, the founder of SonLight Power, attended Leja Bulela's annual meeting and a partnership was born! The $30,000 project took the SonLight Power-Leja Bulela delegation all the way to Tshibombo Tshimuangi and beyond!
